I — Introduction

The Engagement Department governs how members participate in Bangwing IN's structured activities, events, channels, and community programs. While the Communication Department addresses interpersonal behavior and the Content Department addresses what members post, the Engagement Department specifically addresses how members show up — participation quality, event conduct, channel etiquette, and the standards that keep community activities meaningful, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone.

Purposeful engagement transforms a server from a passive chat platform into a thriving community. These rules protect the integrity of Bangwing IN's programs and ensure that participation remains fair, inclusive, and rewarding.

For purposes of this document and all Bangwing IN guidelines, an alternate ("alt") account is any secondary Discord account controlled by a member already holding a primary account in the server, used to circumvent a restriction, duplicate participation, or influence an outcome the member could not achieve under their primary account alone. This definition governs all alt-account references throughout Rules 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, and 14 below.

II — Core Principles

# Principle Summary
1 Purposeful Participation Engagement should be intentional and genuine. Members who participate in events, channels, and activities are expected to contribute meaningfully rather than exploit systems for personal gain.
2 Inclusive Access All community programs and events should remain accessible to all members regardless of skill level, time zone, language, or experience. Barriers to participation should be minimized.
3 Fair Competition and Recognition Competitive events require honest participation. Cheating, metric manipulation, and unfair advantages undermine the integrity of recognition systems and discourage genuine contributors.
4 Channel Purpose Respect Each channel serves a specific purpose. Respecting channel functions keeps content organized, helps members find relevant discussions, and maintains the community's structure.
5 Constructive Community Building Engagement should strengthen community bonds. Actions that divide, exclude, or demoralize members undermine the social fabric that makes Bangwing IN worth being part of.

III — Rules

All rules apply at all times. Ignorance of a rule does not exempt a member from consequences. Intent is considered in determining severity of response — but does not determine whether a rule applies.

Rule 1 — Channel Purpose Compliance

Members must use channels for their designated purposes only. Off-topic content disrupts organization and makes the server harder to navigate for everyone. For content-specific channel placement requirements for creative materials, see the Cultural & Creative Code, Rule 5.
